  • Cryptocaryon irritans (Marine Ich)

    Ich

Marine ich plagues many saltwater hobbyists with great frustration.  This is the most known and frequently visited parasite within our home aquariums.  More than likely if you do not use a secure quarantine procedure for your fish, before entering the display tank, you will have some form of marine ich.  The actual culprit can only […]

  • Secrets Behind Carbon

    Activated Carbon

Many customers inquire about the secret to maintaining pristine water parameters, hoping to get a single answer to the puzzle. However, the answer contains many facets of information. One part includes the use of activated carbon in the aquarium (whether it be in a filter sock, in a pad or even poured straight in as […]

  • Nitrogen Cycle

    browndiatoms

Why is it important? The most important factor, when setting up a new freshwater/saltwater tank, is learning about what a “cycle” is.  This process (over the course of weeks to months) turns your aquarium into a mature tank that can handle the bio-load (fish waste, algae, microorganisms, detritus, etc.) that you choose to keep.  The […]

** Fish Spotlight of the Day **

* Freshwater Tiger Oscar & Albino Tiger Oscar *

The Tiger Oscar requires a large, well-filtered aquarium of at least 70 gallons with a deep sand bottom and a few large rocks. It will dig up plants so any that are in the tank should be potted with the root surfaces covered with rocks. Using floating plants is a good alternative. The Tiger Oscars is not as territorial as most other cichlids when full grown but will consume anything they can fit into their mouths. Though this hardy and easy-to-care-for cichlid is generally mild-mannered in nature, the Tiger Oscar is best kept in a species tanks or with similar size tank mates.

A large tank should be used for breeding, if possible, as large as 100 gallons. The Tiger Oscar will spawn in soft or hard water as long as it is clean and clear and has a temperature between 79-86°F. The Tiger Oscar will pair to form a nuclear family. The female will then lay between 1,000-2,000 eggs on rocks that have been carefully cleaned. The eggs are opaque at first, turning transparent in 24 hours. The brood will be carefully guarded and cared for and the fry will be kept in pits and may even be covered. When they are free-swimming, the fry should be fed Cyclops. Sometimes the fry will cling to their parents. The male and female are difficult to differentiate but during spawning the genital papilla of the female becomes noticeable.

The Tiger Oscar is a predatory carnivore with a hearty appetite. Oscars will eat a variety of meaty foods, including small fish and earthworms, Cichlid pellets, larger flake food, ocean plankton, bloodworms, and tubifex worms.

We currently have a nice assortment of Tiger Oscars starting at only $4.99!

** AccuDrip Acclimation Kit **
“Protecting your Investment!”

There’s nothing more heartbreaking than bringing new tank inhabitants home and watching them stressed and traumatized from improper acclimation.

You can reduce shock and stress induced diseases by acclimating all new specimens safely and easily with our professional Patent-Pending drip acclimation method. Providing the smoothest transition for your new tank mates is the single most important decision to safeguard against unwanted distress. Even the slightest differences in temperature, pH, and specific gravity (salinity) are detrimental and prevents a long healthy life.

The AccuDrip is the smart investment for relocating new livestock from point A to point B with minimal complications. Its’ Patent-Pending self-priming siphon bulb is the sanitary choice to keep aquarium water off your hands and away from your mouth while displaying a constant visible drip count at eye level.

The AccuDrip utilizes a rigid tube that hangs virtually on any aquarium which flows water through a transparent self-priming siphon bulb that doubles as a visual drip counter and is controlled with a precision thumb wheel rolling clamp. Only requires one gentle squeeze to create a siphon guaranteed every time!

DIRECTIONS:

Use a clean and designated bucket and release your live fish, coral, or invertebrate along with the water contents. Always remember to allocate one bucket for fish only and one for corals and invertebrates to prevent cross contamination.

Clean Up
Simply hang the rigid tubing on a cup of freshwater to rinse out any excess salt that may clog.

We currently have the AccuDrip Acclimation Kit on sale for $14.99!

** Freshwater Fish Spotlight of the Day **

* Freshwater Sidthimunki Dwarf Botia Loach *

The Sidthimunki Botia Loach is a bottom-dweller that originated from the streams in India. Currently due to the low numbers in the wild, they are being farm-raised. The body of this Botia Loach is silver to tan in coloration and, like other Botia loaches, this fish is identified by the four pairs of barbels protruding from the mouth area. The upper half of this fish is decorated with a checker-like pattern of black bars, which give this fish a very interesting look. The Sidthimunki Botia Loach is sometimes referred to as a scaleless fish; however, they do in fact have small scales that are embedded in their skin.

The Sidthimunki Botia Loach is an active scavenger that is a semi-aggressive fish that enjoys the company of its own species, or other semi-aggressive fish. It will school with others of the same age and size. The Sidthimunki Botia Loach appreciates caves, holes, and other places to hide, especially when it sleeps. Because it originates from streams, it requires water currents in the aquarium.

The Sidthimunki Botia Loach requires small amounts of food several times a day. Younger Loaches will eat most prepared foods while older ones may be more finicky. Feed them a varied diet of bloodworms, brine shrimp and a quality flake or pellet food.

We just started carrying Sidthimunki Dwarf Botia Loaches and they are currently on sale for only $3.99!

Gourmet Grazer – Feeding is Now a Snap!

Angels, Tangs, Butterflies, Mollies and many other freshwater and marine fish are natural “pickers”. They graze 90% of their day picking at the surfaces of wood, corals and rock. It is important that they are offered plenty of seaweed and algae throughout the day. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health.

Traditional and Untraditional seaweed feeding tools have used suction cups, clips and rubber bands that held seaweed with one point of contact and if not secured properly, had the chance of detaching wasting the food and polluting your aquarium.

The Patent-Pending Gourmet Grazer is a magnetic mounted, snap lock feeder that secures seaweed in place by having contact all around the perimeter and will promote the natural picking process and allows your fish to simultaneously graze throughout the day.

Just open, insert any size seaweed and snap close. The magnet-mount allows for easy insertion and control, keeping your hands dry and food secured!

FEATURES:
For Fresh and Saltwater Fish (Herbivores and Carnivores)
Can hold up to 10 sheets of precut seaweed
Reduces Waste and Maintains Water Quality
Feed Multiple Fish Simultaneously
Can be placed vertically or horizontally
Low Profile
Magnetic Mounted
Promotes Natural Picking
Durable PVC Construction
Snap-Lock Security

Innovate Marine Gourmet Defroster – Feeding, Well Thawed Out.

Do you really have 5 minutes to “defrost” frozen fish food in a cup? We certainly don’t.

The Gourmet Defroster is the fast, effective and simple way of feeding your fish frozen food. Our Patent-Pending Gourmet Defroster has taken all the hassle and frustration out of frozen food feeding and gives you numerous features that you’ll love!

Just drop a cube and go, and let this 3-in-1, magnet-mounted defroster thaw, separate, and dispense frozen food all by itself! Its open/close pivoting design gives you an adjustable release setting that allows for portion control and the ability to regulate the amount of food that is released into your tank. This keeps more food in their mouths, and less in your filter.

With the Gourmet Defroster’s easy disassembly, it also doubles as a feeding ring for freeze-dried and larger floating frozen food. When combined with the Gourmet Grinder you can feed flake and pellet food adding variety and a balance of healthy nutrients! The Defroster’s ring corrals the food in one place so the food doesn’t drift all around your tank, which keeps your fish fed and your water crystal clear.

FEATURES:
For Fresh and Saltwater Fish
Can be used for Frozen, Pellet, Flake or Freeze Dried Food.
Adjustable Release Settings
Reduces Waste and Maintains Water Quality

** Freshwater Fish Spotlight of the Day **

* Freshwater Kuhli Loach *
The Black Kuhlii Loaches are bottom dwelling scavengers with reduced or absent scales and a mouth surrounded by barbels used to taste. At times, the loach will lie on its side when there are insufficient hiding places, giving the impression that it is sick; this behavior is normal. Largely nocturnal, loaches are shy fish that like to hide among driftwood, plant roots, rocks, and caves. Loaches are peaceful fish that get along well with other peaceful community tank mates. Although it is a scavenger, it is largely carnivorous, preferring freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, as well as frozen and live foods of all types.

We currently have a nice selection of Kuhli Loaches on sale for $2.99!

** Spotlight of the Day **

** Saltwater Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber **

The Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber is one of nature's more exotic detritus eaters. With its brown body spotted with white and dressed in numerous spiny papillae, Holothuria sp. is also a visually stunning addition to the home aquarium. Since it is a very adept and agile scavenger, the Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber can clean detritus from beneath rockwork and difficult-to-clean tight corners. Native to the oceans of the Indo-Pacific, this member of the Holothuriidae family can grow to impressive lengths of up to six feet long in the wild. In the home aquarium, however, most max out in length between 12" and 18" long. In general, keep only 3 inches of worm for every 20 gallons of aquarium water. For best care, the Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber should be kept in larger systems with thick sand beds and rocky caves for shelter. The natural diet of the Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber consists of diatoms, microalgae, bacteria, meaty foods, and other detritus. Interestingly, the Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber is one of the few species that attaches its lower body to the inside of its shelter and only extends its anterior half when searching for food. Like other Sea Cucumbers, Holothuria sp. has the potential to poison an aquarium. The chances of this happening are very rare unless the animal is accidentally sucked into an uncovered pump intake or overflow boxes. Be sure to acclimate properly and house with appropriate inhabitants. The drip-acclimation method is recommended to minimize exposure to fluctuating water parameters. The Sea Cucumber cannot tolerate high nitrate levels or copper-based medications.

We currently have 3 Tiger Tail Sea Cucumbers currently on sale for $14.99!

** Invertebrate Spotlight of the Day **

* Saltwater Green Emerald Crab back in stock *

The Emerald Crab is well respected for its scavenging ability. It will enthusiastically feed on uneaten meaty foods and many types of nuisance algae. Unlike many other animals, Mithraculus sculptus will eat bubble algae and helps clean your aquarium of these algae. Its distinct, flat shiny green body and hairy legs easily identify the Emerald Crab. Native to the reefs of the Caribbean, the Emerald Crab is nocturnal and hides in caves and amongst rubble during the day. Once familiar with its surroundings, the Emerald Crab will venture out of hiding during the day to forage on algae. Care needs to be taken to ensure an ample supply of food is available for the Emerald Crab. Otherwise, this opportunistic feeder may turn to corals, invertebrates, or small fish for a food source. However, when well fed, most Emerald Crabs are very tolerant of their tankmates and highly compatible in reef environments. Like other invertebrates, the Emerald Crab does not tolerate copper-based medications or fluctuating water parameters.

Green Emerald Crabs are back in stock and they currently on sale for $4.99 or Buy 3 Get 1 FREE!
